
Of Yuzaki's seven ancient hot springs, this is the only one that still remains. The historic open-air bath is located approximately 10 meters from the sea. Enjoy the bath as waves lap against the rocks.

A historic hot spring mentioned in the ancient texts the Nihon Shoki and Manyoshu. As water comes from the two spring sources of Mabu-yu and Miyuki-yu, visitors can enjoy two types of hot spring.

This hot spring facing the Engetsu Islet is popular with local residents. Bathers can enjoy views of the ocean through the window. We also recommend taking a walk to view Engetsu Islet after bathing.

A hot spring located a little away from the central hot-spring resort area and near Shirahama Pier. It is a public bathhouse on the first floor of Tsunashirazu Hall, a local assembly house. Bathers can see the ocean from the bath.

A facility using the frame of a warehouse built in the early Showa period (1926-1989). The bathtub, which uses Kishu's bincho charcoal, is an aesthetic delight. The mild spring water has relatively less sodium than typical hot springs in Japan.

An approximately five-minute walk from Shirarahama Beach. The quaint foot bath allows local residents to relax soaking their feet in hot water. Drinks and snacks are available at night.

With a shopping mall nearby, this is an ideal foot bath for taking a rest while strolling. There is a monument of hanamaruyukidakaragai(a kind of snail).

A white, sandy beach extending approximately 600 meters. It is very popular as a swimming beach, and is decorated with many colorful parasols in summer. It has a sister beach relationship with Hawaii's Waikiki Beach.

An Islet located in the south sea off Rinkaiura. It measures 130 meters from south to north, 35 meters from east to west and 25 meters in height, and its formal name is Takashima. The name Engetsu is derived from the sea cave in the center of the Islet that looks like a round moon. The evening views are exquisitely beautiful.

A hilltop park overlooking Shirahama Town. In the park, which encompasses rows of cherry blossom trees and a plum grove, visitors can enjoy seasonally changing flowers and plants. There are also an open space and obstacle course to entertain families.

Sheer rocky cliffs on the south shore of Senjojiki. They stand 50 meters in height and extend two kilometers from south to north. Long ago, these cliffs were used as a look-out point from which passing ships and schools of fish were watched. Visitors can go down into the underground cave.

Senjojiki (meaning a thousand tatami mats) is named after the scale of the large bedrock reminiscent of vast piles of rocks. The grand landscape has been formed through erosion by angry waves. Senjojiki is also known as a location for dramas and movies set in Shirahama.

With many plum blossoms covering the gently hilly area in spring, Minabe Plum Grove is described by the saying "a million trees at a glance, and flavors that reach far away". At this time of year, the smell of spring hangs in the air, and clean white flowers are testament to the seasonal energy. Many plum blossom-related events are held.

Approximately 20,000 plum trees are grown in the 30-hectare area, which looks like a beautiful white carpet when in peak bloom. A variety of events are held while the flowers are at their best, attracting many visitors.

A plum grove located at a high altitude. It has nice views. Particularly, Ojamine Observatory at an altitude of 400 meters commands fine views of white plum fields extending in the shape of a mortar against the backdrop of the horizon. Walking along trails lined with oak trees (for bincho charcoal) is highly recommended.

Kumano Kodo is a series of ancient pilgrimage routes to Kumano Sanzan, the three grand shrines of Kumano Hongu Taisha, Kumano Nachi Taisha and Kumano Hayatama Taisha in the Kii Peninsula. Minakata Kumagusu, who was born in the town of Wakayama Castle in 1867, was a world-class naturalist. He was well-versed in more than a dozen languages and had a wide variety of knowledge on biology, ethnology, mineralogy and literature. This museum exhibits articles from his life, literary remains and photographs.


This temple is also known as Seashell Temple, and exhibits a collection of approximately 1,000 types of shell that have been donated by local fishermen since the Edo Period (1603 to 1868). Please see the beautiful honkakujihigai shells, the origin of the temple's name.

One of the largest seafood markets in western Japan. It sells seafood and special local products, and visitors can see longtooth grouper and other fish swimming in a water tank as large as those found in aquariums. There are also restaurants and cafés on site.

A restaurant that satisfies customers in both taste and volume. It provides a buffet for breakfast, while with the lunch of the day customers can choose their main dish from three to four options. For an extra 100 yen, you can add coffee to your meal.

A direct-sales shop for Fukubishi, a confectioner that is well known for Kagero. Recommended sweets are Fuwafuwa-shu (100 yen per piece) and cheese cake (735 yen), which are available only here. Fresh cream cakes and baked confectionery are also available. They are popular as gifts.

A sushi restaurant that is popular with local residents. It can offer various dishes using seasonal seafood caught off Kishu for a range of budgets (from 2,500 yen). In addition to counter seats, various sizes of Japanese-style rooms are also available. It is advisable to reserve a table well in advance, particularly in summer.

A well known shop for honey-flavored pickled Nankobai plums. Recommended is plum soft serve ice cream using fully-ripened Nankobai plums. The shop's original ice cream is fruity and costs 260 yen.


This restaurant has been featured on TV with its saury sushi (only 20 pieces available per day, 630 yen). It serves sushi, set meals and a la carte dishes featuring seasonal fish. The set meals for lunch (1,000 yen or more) are especially recommended. Japanese-style rooms are available.


This popular restaurant is packed with local customers and tourists at lunchtime. It offers a variety of dishes including set meals, a la carte dishes and udon noodles. Particularly popular is Kumanoji-don (1,350 yen ), a rice-based dish featuring local ingredients.

A shop specializing in Ideyu Hantai Tamago, eggs (60 yen each) boiled in the hot spring water of Saki-no-yu. The combination of softly-solidified yolk and half-boiled white is superb. You can easily eat two to three eggs with a little salt.

Kumano's delicious natural water springs from under the shrine of Yakushi Nyorai. Although anyone can scoop up the water free of charge, pet bottles and glass bottles cannot be used. Please use plastic water containers.

Famous water in the Nakahechi-cho Nonaka area that ancient travelers would have drunk. It still wells up and is used by local people for daily purposes. It has been selected as one of the best 100 waters in Japan.

Otome no Shizuku is located near Yasukawa Valley deep in the mountains. The area is richly endowed with nature, and visitors may encounter wild animals. Try the cold, clean and delicious water that wells up from between rocks.
